Heroes: the Army
the Men of Fox Company
Co. F., 405th Regiment, 102nd Division (2nd Battalion)
European Theater of Operations
the Men of Fox Company:
The following is a listing of the names of Fox Company men as Mentioned in the 26 stories that we thus far have collected from men who served with Co. F., 405th Regiment, 102nd Division (2nd Battalion).
We began this list as we began compiling, correlating, and adding the stories that were sent to us by Mr. Edward L. Souder of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
As we would read through these stories, many names would appear and in some cases, only a last name and in other cases a full name. Each story in turn led us to locate additional names of men in Fox Company. In many cases these names were attached to certain events and would allow anyone researching this unit to begin to compile an overall picture of some of the men of this historic World War II unit.
It is our hope that in time, that other names will surface and we in time may be able to compile a complete list of the men. Until then, we will continue to work with each successive story and add additional names and information with regards to the men who were Fox Company.

Co. F. 1st Lt., (nickname "Junior" from Bakersfield, California, Bob Herrick is a native Californian, born and raised in Lodi, Ca. While attending the U of Ca. at Davis, He completed 4 years of ROTC except for summer camp, which was cancelled due to the start of the war. Therefore he went to OCS at the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Ga, as a cadet and graduated with an ORC commission rather than the usual AUG. It was an odd ball deal and hard to explain to personell officers. In June of 1943 he was assigned to the 42nd Inf. Div. (Rainbow) at Camp Gruber, Ok. in time for reactivation which was done with much ado because of their WWI record. Interestingly a large number of the cadre had been drawn from the 102 nd Div. at Camp Maxey, Tx. In early 1944 they stripped various divisions in training of their POE qualified Company Grade officers and off we went, in our case, to be replacments for D-Day in France, from Bob Herric letter

PFC., Co. F., From Minneapolis, Mn. Ed began his service time in 1942, when finishing his last year in college, by enlisting in the Army Reserve Corps, not seeing active duty until March of 1943. After some josteling around by the Army and being put into a couple of programs which were ultimately cancelled, he became a "wire man" in charge of the company radios. He and four others were wounded in Germany on 28 November 1944 when fired on by a German 88. Souder, after a long recouperation was eventually discharged with lingering medical problems brought on by his shrapnel wounds. Ed Souder is the inspiration for this entire series of stories of the men of Co. F., Fox Company. Without his tireless work and dedication to his fellow servicemen, this series would not have been possible.
